Internal Recruitment to the Assistant Director roles

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to provide feedback on Phase 2 of our Direction of Travel.  We received really helpful comments which have helped shape our thinking in finalising the roles.

As a result, we have made some adjustments to the roles and refined the job profiles to ensure they describe the purpose and impact of each of the roles.   This includes bringing Community Housing into the AD Commissioning and Transformation, in Adults and refining the role of AD - Healthy and Safe Communities to make the Director of Public Health responsibilities embedded in this role more prominent.   The second AD role within the Corporate and Commercial Directorate will be finalised shortly and further communications on this will follow.

Having successfully recruited to all the new Director posts in our strategic leadership team, we are now ready to start the recruitment to the Assistant Director roles as part of Phase 2 of our Direction of Travel and welcome applications from our internal employees.  The new job profiles and the AD structure are now available.

Whilst the role profiles have been reviewed with input from the newly appointed Directors, we need to keep in mind our ambition to be flexible and adaptable.  When the new Directors join,  there will be opportunities for the senior leadership team to shape and develop these roles further.  These are new roles so if you are successful, you will be part of that process of developing our new senior leadership.  In other words, being a new AD is also your chance to shape the future of Kingston with your Director colleagues.

Our staff are our greatest asset and a key resource. Their performance depends on constructive leadership and highly effective management. The council is changing and the experience, skills and expertise needed for the future must continue to be developed.

So we will are looking for those among you who are flexible and adaptable, ready to take a role that will be yours to shape and change and who have the potential to be a key part of a new leadership that will make our constructive culture a reality.

These new posts will be filled through a recruitment process, and to provide an opportunity for talented individuals within the council to seek promotion and develop, we are now opening these posts to internal candidates only, in line with the principles set out in Direction of Travel Phase 1. We have asked Penny Ransley from GatenbySanderson to assist us with a robust and fair internal process, ensuring that we meet the highest standards in what we know is a competitive market.  The recruitment process will be as testing as you would expect if applying for an external role - and will reassure SLT and give candidates the confidence that they have been tested at that level.

Please see job profiles here.

Full details of how to apply and the process will be detailed here on Monday 12th February.

Closing date: Monday 19th February at 9.00am in the morning.

If you have not already expressed an interest but are keen to now do so please could you let Emma Stracey in HR know by Wednesday 14th February so that we can plan this into the recruitment schedule for GatenbySanderson.

Thank you

Charlie Adan
