The local government landscape is shifting and all councils, including The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, face unprecedented levels of change.
Kingston is developing a strong strategic narrative with its communities; our story of the future.
We are thinking radically about how we use our resources, moving away from a focus on savings and cuts, to a really fundamental exploration of how we use what we have more effectively, becoming more commercial in our approach and generating more income locally whilst at the same time meeting the needs of our citizens and communities. This is what we are calling our “commercial head and social heart” approach.
To be successful our organisation needs to change, so we are changing our structure to provide strong strategic leadership and delivery capability, developing our systems and processes to become more agile and fleet of foot and our culture, to enable us to do more with less. This means organising ourselves differently, growing our own and recruiting the best available talent and creating a constructive and supportive culture. In short, we need to become an organisation fit for the challenges of today’s public services.
We have a great team to work with. Our employees have already told us that they want to be "open, innovative and smart” in the way they work and there are already some great examples of these values in action.
